When we were young, we thought our stick figure drawings made us artists. Not so much, especially when we consider that contemporary painter Michael Flohr, king of the canvas, began oil painting at 8 years old. Since then, the young master has honed his extreme talent to become today, some 30 years later, a leader in the art world.
What makes Michael Flohr’s work so special?
Michael Flohr takes us places. His ability to capture urban landscapes allow us to travel without packing our bags, taking us on visual adventures from the streets of New York to the vibrant nights in New Orleans, from the bustling cafes in Paris to the rainy days in London. In these bold-colored street scenes, Flohr captures movement and mood and yet, is able to convey stillness and a slice-of-life element to every moment.
Not limited to cityscapes, this skilled storyteller takes us out on the town and paints nightlife scenes. With a glance, we sense the bustle in the bar, feel ourselves inside the restaurant and hear the sounds of the musicians on stage. Yes, Michael Flohr, with his spectacular brushstrokes, makes fleeting, familiar and ordinary moments, stand still in an extraordinary way.
Want to meet this impressive talent, a painter who has it down to a fine art? YOU CAN!
Michael Flohr will be at Toronto’s LISS GALLERY (140 Yorkville Avenue) on September 20th, 2014 from 6pm-9pm.
