5) Have ‘Animal House’ playing on the TV.

New Years Eve Party: 2 Ways

This year, there are two different parties you can throw for New Years- an X-rated party, filled with 50 Shades of Grey (just in time for the movie to come out) or a family friendly version, for those of all ages. No matter what, don’t forget the champagne! Happy 2015!

FAMILY FRIENDLY: A Time Flies New Years Eve Party

Tick Tock!!! We can’t think of a better way to ring in 2014 than with this fun, chic and super affordable New Year’s Eve Bash.

How to throw this party:

1) In keeping with the time theme (time has come, time goes by, having a rare old time), collect clocks from your house for easy decoration.

2) Scatter numbers (we used stickers from Home Depot) all over the table.

3) To add to the almost-no-cost decor, get clocks from the dollar store – we used them as chargers under clear dollar store plastic plates, as additional table props and as name cards at each place setting.

5 Tasty Ways to Make Your Hanukkah Happy

This week begins the 8 days of Hanukkah, the Jewish festival of lights (and donuts and chocolate and fried potatoes), food and fun. Check out these food and drink recipes, that are sure to transform Oy-to-Joy!

Every Jewish family has its own version of this classic feel-better soup. I might be biased, but I think Lisa’s simple and superb recipe is the best one yet. This Traditional Chicken Soup with Matzo Balls is a real miracle, it can even finally convince your Mother-in-law that you’re good enough for her son.

This dairy delight, this sweet, old-fashioned Noodle Pudding dotted with caramelized apples, is the best, the greatest, the one-and-only version that will kick all others’ kugel to the curb. Egg noodles are tossed with cottage cheese, sour cream and cream cheese and topped with a crumbly graham cracker topping.

Like so many American favorites, the simple bagel and lox sandwich is rooted in a hardscrabble immigration story. We’ve taken this classic combination out of the 1930’s and modernized it in true Bite Me style with this this super easy Bagel & Smoked Salmon Strata.

Who needs Chocolate Gelt (chocolate coins covered in gold and silver foil) when you can have double the chocolate fix with these Gooey Double Chocolate Cookies?

Tired of wearing jelly powdered doughnuts on your face, fingers and pants? No longer. We’ve taken the taste of the perfect jelly doughnut, the ultimate Hanukkah dessert, and transformed it into this creamy Jelly Doughnut Milkshake. Grab a straw and ditch the dozen powdery doughnuts and the dry cleaner!

Throw a chic, cool and inexpensive Hanukkah party, complete with a DIY menorah and a creative joy-to-oy touch! Don’t forget your chocolate money and jelly donuts!

How to throw this party:

1) Want to make a DIY menorah? Empty glass Perrier bottles (both large & small), soak in warm water to get the label off then spray paint glossy white. Take different colored candles and wrap the bases of the candles with white and silver ribbon.

2) At the dollar store, we bought packages of gelt, mini blue and silver presents, dreidels, blue and clear crystal pieces and the mirrored signs at each place.

3) Place cards were bags stuffed with blue or silver sizzle and an oversized dreidel.

Ho! Ho! Ho! Christmas is right around the corner! We know how overwhelming it can be to host everyone for dinner, so we’ve made your life easier with a easy-to-do Christmas party.

How to throw this party:

1) To get in the candy cane spirit, we created a red and white runner out of wrapping paper.

2) The dollar store was instrumental in this party – we stocked up on red and white bows, ornaments, candy, reindeer, paper lanterns and gems.

3) The Santa Beards on Sticks (at each place standing up in the mugs) from Paper Source are a special addition to the party and a great idea for fun photo ops.

4) Have “Elf,” “Scrooged” or “A Christmas Story” playing on the TV.
